How to Play Sports Squares
Sports Squares (also known as Football Squares or Super Bowl Squares) is a popular game of chance played during sporting events. It's easy to learn, fun to play, and adds excitement to any game day!
Set Up the Grid
The game uses a 10x10 grid (100 squares total). One team is assigned to the columns (top) and the other to the rows (side).
10 columns × 10 rows = 100 squares
Players Claim Squares
Before the game starts, players select (or are randomly assigned) squares on the grid. Each square can have a cost associated with it, and all the money goes into a pot.
- Players write their name (or initials) in their chosen squares
- Some games let players pick their squares, others assign randomly
- A player can claim as many squares as they want
Numbers Are Assigned
Once all squares are claimed, numbers 0-9 are randomly assigned to each row and column. This is usually done right before the game starts to keep it fair.
Important: Numbers should be assigned AFTER squares are claimed to prevent players from choosing strategically.
Determine Winners
At the end of each quarter (or period), look at the last digit of each team's score. The square where those two numbers intersect is the winner!
Example:
Chiefs: 21
49ers: 17
The winning square is where 1 (Chiefs column) meets 7 (49ers row)
Payouts
The pot is typically divided among the winners of each quarter. A common payout structure is:
Q1
20%
Q2 (Halftime)
20%
Q3
20%
Final
40%
